Match report [Feb. 13th, 2008|09:57 am]

Oh the irony...

The first day it rained properly in the Waikato all summer was the day of the cricket. If you ever need a drought breaker, arrange an international cricket match.

It was raining in the morning, but we, ever optimistic, drove 50km to Hamilton anyway. Well Mum drove. If I had tried to it would have taken about 5 hours because I drive slower than some people walk. We did various things in town (mostly involving food) before the sun miraculously came out an hour before play was due to start.
I met my friend and we found a great spot to sit on the embankment. We watched the players warm up and discussed important matters such as what we had for breakfast and which players were the most piratey.
Play began on time and England got off to a speedy start. There was one fantastic over, a six and two wickets - including THAT CATCH. I actually saw it as it happened, which is unusual because mostly they only take wickets when I am looking for food or have my head turned to talk to someone. It was incredible. Brendon McCullum take a bow. Airbourne, full stretch to his right. He probably had half a second. Wow.
After that it was fairly non-eventful from a NZ point of view. The english got some runs. We weren't paying that much attention, as we were having an in depth discussion about Brendon's tattoos and the fact that wicketkeepers look like frogs.
After 15 overs there was a rain delay. Everyone put up their umbrellas. Sadly, we had no umbrella as we were told in the carpark that they were stopping people taking umbrellas in. We stayed about 20 minutes in the rain, then 45 minutes in the car waiting for it to stop. It didn't. We went home.
At home there was beautiful sunshine. I turned on the TV. The players were just walking on to Seddon Park under beautiful clear skies that stayed for the rest of the night. I then watched us win by ten wickets in a fantastic display of hitting by Jesse Ryder and Brendon McCullum and listened to the commentators talk about how lucky all these people were that they stayed through the rain.

Dreams [Sep. 19th, 2007|10:33 am]

[music |Pearl Jam - Just a girl]

Last night I dreamed I had a massive screaming fight with my English teacher (who was my diving coach in the dream) because she told me the reason I was having trouble diving off the high board was that my running shoes were too small and were hurting my feet. I got really angry and yelled at her in the middle of the street. THen I ran home in my perfectly fitting shoes. I think exams are doing my head in.

That was an awesome game of cricket last night. Twenty20 is growing on me. Did you see Lou's stop? What an incredible piece of fielding. The whole game was worth watching just for that.

[music |Pearl Jam - Army Reserve]

Today I went and observed at the Vet Clinic. Nothing happened. Seriously. There was 1 budgie at about 9:30. It died in the vet's hands. The other vet put down a dog a bit later on. That was all. Two animals. They took about five minutes each, maybe less, and both of them died. So I had a fun time mopping floors and putting invoices into the computer.

Three days of holidays left. What have I done? I watched TV. I slept. I went to the movies twice, the zoo once, shopping once, to the dentist once, and to the optometrist. How exciting. Tomorrow I am going shopping with my mother to try to persuade her to buy me THE GREEN COAT. Then I am going to the optemetrist again.

Yay! We're in the semis of the world cup! Not to be pessimistic, but I think it'll be Australia vs. Sri Lanka in the final. But the Black caps are still fantastic. And better looking.

WE WON!!!!!!!! [Feb. 18th, 2007|08:04 pm]

WE WON WE WON WE WON!!!! Take that Australia! We've won a series against Australia and I'm going to the cleansweep :D

TAYLOR! FULTON! MCMILLAN! MCCULLUM!

What a chase, we got 337/5 with 1.2 overs to go. Unbelievable!

Brends was so happy at the end. YAY! I've only seen us win four games against Aussie. We chased in all of them, and Brends was there at the end of all but 1 (and we won that by 10 wickets). Is this telling us something?

A Dilemma, and stupid English homework [Feb. 15th, 2007|07:54 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

Here is my dilemma: Should I go to Athletics day and participate in the gumboot throw, or should I go to the cricket?

Athletics Day: 1. I promised my friend I'd go.
2. It's my last chance to go to one.
3. It would be fun going in the gumboot throw, which is the only event I signed up for.
4. I could cheer on my friends.
5. I can wear my cool green dress because it's house colours.
6. I could still go to the second innings and half the first.

Cricket: 1. My Japanese teacher told us that all yr 12 & 13 classes are cancelled on Athletics Day, so I would not be wagging. However, this has not been officially conformed yet.
2. I would get a good spot to watch from.
3. More time watching cricket.
4. It's my last chance of the summer to go to the cricket.
5. International cricket will be more interesting to watch than school athletics.
6. I can see Brends better from the cricket ground.

I wonder if I can go to athletics for half the day then disappear partway through.

In other news, this is what I had to do for English:

[music |Pearl Jam - Come Back]

I am a cricket geek. Last night I stayed up til 1:30 watching us beat England. Yay! We got a good total and Oram wasn't badly hurt. Danny had a neck problem and had to keep getting physio betweeen overs. It was highly amusing to watch.

We just have to work on our catching and we're in!

And might I say that Brends was looking lovely, particularly in comparison to Paul Nixon. The commentators had lots of nice things to say about Brendon and nothing good to say about Nixon. I have an irrational intense dislike for Nixon. He got out for 49 on the last ball. HA HA!

cricket (of course) [Jan. 30th, 2007|02:48 pm]

[music |Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss a Thing]

I went to the Northern Districts vs Auckland Twenty/20 on Sunday. It was the last ball and they (Auckland) needed 10 runs to win. We couldn't possibly lose. But yet again ND manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Bloody Graeme Aldridge bowled a no ball!!! In Twenty/20 the batting team gets 2 runs and a free hit when the bowler oversteps. The batsmen ran 2. Aldridge bowled the final delivery (again)with Auckland needing 6 to win. The batsman hit it out of the park. I was quite cross with Aldridge.
On a lighter note we were sitting immediately in front of Scott Styris's wife and friends. He walked right past us and collected his baby to take back to the pavillion after he got out. He has a very cute baby with a pink hat. He is also unnaturally pale for someone who spends all day outside playing cricket.

Blackcaps vs. Australia: WHAT A GAME! Clean up the catching a bit and we're in. Who says no-one challenges Australia. The Oram-McCullum combination is brilliant. My boys did great.

cricket, music and random other things [Jan. 14th, 2007|05:23 pm]

[music |Hootie and the Blowfish - I Only Wanna Be With You]

I do not know the score of the cricket. I stopped watching when NZ were 2 for 7. We are going to lose. Oh well, maybe Tuesday. Losing cricket makes me grumpy.

Brendon McCullum stands up to the stumps without a helmet or even a mouthguard. He is fearless. You'd think he'd want to protect his lovely face with its perfect set of teeth. But no. He is supremely confident. I know if I was standing there I would want a helmet with a full face grill AND a mouthguard AND full body armour. And a large brick wall between me and the ball being bowled. But that's just me.

This morning I attempted to listen to an NSync CD (the first one). I was a huge fan when I was about 10. My God what vomit-inducing crap.

I just went swimming in the surf in my new togs. Bad idea. First wave, down it comes - this was potentially very embarrassing, but i managed to right it while under water. And that, my friends is why you don't wear togs that are held up by a tiny strap attached front and centre, tied around the neck in the surf. Those togs are now firmly in the sitting beside the swimming pool basket.

And now I have to move firewood.

My day. [Apr. 27th, 2006|02:09 pm]

[mood | energetic]
[music |Daddy Cool - Eagle Rock]

During the course of today I have:

Walked to the reserve (exactly 3km);
Read most of Thinking Negatively;
Discovered that tennis is really not my game, although in the process of this executed a very good cut shot for 4;
Put mulch in bags;
discussed the cricket

Yesterday I went to the Library and issued Thinking Negatively, by Mark Richardson, Grand Larseny, by Gavin Larsen, and Michael Parkinson on Cricket.
I wonder if the librarian noticed that I like cricket.

I also watched 'Singles' yesterday. Below average movie, bloody awesome soundtrack. And it has Pearl Jam (well, Eddie, Jeff and Stone) and Chris Cornell in it.

[music |INXS - Beautiful Girl]

Do normal teenage girls read cricket articles from 1931 for entertainment? I think not.
I am reading 'Bat and Pad' - An anthology of writings on New Zealand cricket.
It's quite interesting. Tomorrowing I'm taking the bus 45km into town to get Mark Richardson's book out of the library. I have problems. I am also seeing 'Sione's Wedding' again. Because a NZ movie that isn't really bad or really depressing is extremely hard to find.

George on 'Grey's Anatomy' gives me warm fuzzies. He's the whole reason I have started watching that programme.

bio project, stupid people, cricket [Apr. 17th, 2006|11:46 am]

[mood | calm]
[music |Blue Oyster Cult - Don't fear the reaper]

I have just spent all morning doing my bio project. I washed sand. I made tags. I planted 150 lupin seeds. I am now struggling to come up with a feasible reason for not putting the plant food on them yet. I don't think the teacher would accept "I couldn't be bothered." I really should have planted them on Friday.

I had to work yesterday. Easter Sunday. No alcohol sales. It is the law. At least half of the customers appeared to be blind, or at the very least unable to read. Or possibly very stupid.

"I'm sorry, we can't sell alcohol on Easter Sunday."
"Oh, I see. Is that why there are FIFTEEN TRILLION BIG RED SIGNS?"

"Can't you buy wine today?"
"I'm sorry, we can't sell any alcohol on Easter Sunday."
"Can I buy beer then?"

GRRRRRR.

In cricket news -

ORAM! ORAM! ORAM!
133. You Legend! You saved the test.

The Black Caps would fall apart without Vettori and McCullum.
Vettori is truly brilliant with the ball, and pretty great with the bat too (81 yesterday, you wonderful, wonderful man). He's one of the few who actually run after the ball in a test match.
McCullum was, in a past life, a pig dog called Ripper. He never lets go. He's fiesty. He comes in and saves the day at all the right moments. He's full of energy. He's by far the best wicketkeeper in NZ. He's little with large wicketkeeping gloves. And best of all, he has not missed a match for NZ because of injury for over 2 years.

weird... [Apr. 10th, 2006|05:14 pm]

[mood | weird]
[music |Meatloaf - Two Out of Three Ain't Bad]

It says in the paper that McCullum got 101 off 93 with 7 4s and 7 6s. It says that Martin got 9 not out off 41. On the Black caps website it says that McCullum got 101 off 145 and Martin got 9 not out off 86. This does not weigh up.
Anyway, Brends, you are my hero.

I am old, father William. It was my birthday yesterday. I now have a flash portable DVD player.
